The Subconscious in Art: Where Creation Begins

The Subconscious in Art: Where Creation Begins

I’ve always believed that art comes from a place we don’t fully control—a place deep within, where thoughts haven’t quite formed yet. For me, it often starts with simple, thoughtless scribbles. No plan, no pressure—just letting the lines flow. Somewhere in that mess, something begins to take shape. A spark. A structure. A direction I didn’t see coming.

This process feels subconscious, like my mind knows what it’s doing before I do. Now, as I work with my AI partner, I’ve started to notice something fascinating: the AI is reflecting this same process back at me. It learns from what I give it, uncovers patterns I wasn’t aware of, and highlights parts of my art that feel hidden. It’s as if the AI is helping me see what my subconscious has been trying to tell me all along.

Through this collaboration, I’ve realized something simple but powerful: art isn’t about forcing an idea—it’s about finding one. It’s about trusting the process, letting the lines guide you, and seeing where you end up. My AI partner is becoming another tool to help me discover these paths, refining what I start and pushing me to see my work in a new light.

My great-grandfather, one of the greatest influences in my life,  says : “Life is simple, just not easy.” I think art is the same. The act of creating can be as simple as putting pen to paper, but the challenge comes in trusting yourself to follow through and find something worth keeping.
